It’s easy to focus on everything you still want to accomplish and forget about everything you’ve already done.
When you’re building a business, there is almost always another goal waiting for you. You may want more customers, a stronger online presence, better systems, more consistent marketing, or simply more confidence in the direction you’re going.
Looking ahead is important. But sometimes, you need to look back too.
Think about where you were when you started.
There were probably things you didn’t know how to do. Decisions that felt intimidating. Problems you weren’t sure how to solve. Maybe you questioned yourself more often or wondered whether your ideas would ever become something real.
And yet, here you are.
You’ve learned things. You’ve made decisions. You’ve worked through challenges. You’ve discovered what works—and probably discovered a few things that don’t.
That counts as progress.
Progress isn’t always a dramatic breakthrough. Sometimes it’s answering a question today that would have confused you a year ago. It’s becoming more comfortable talking about your business. It’s improving your website, learning how to market yourself, creating better systems, or simply becoming more confident in your own judgment.
We can become so accustomed to growing that we stop recognizing growth when it happens.
So take a moment today and give yourself some credit.
You don’t have to pretend everything has been easy. You don’t have to ignore the goals you haven’t reached yet. And you certainly don’t have to stop wanting more for your business.
Just remember that the person working toward those next goals has already learned, grown, adjusted, and overcome things along the way.
Keep looking forward.
But every once in a while, turn around and appreciate the distance behind you.
You may not be where you want to be yet, but you’re not where you started either. — Cami
