I’ve been wanting to start this journal for a while. I wanted a place where I could share more than just information about websites and business. I wanted somewhere I could share a little about myself, the things I enjoy, what I’m learning, and some of the experiences that have shaped me along the way.

So I thought I would start with how I became a website designer.

My love for design started long before I ever thought about building websites. As a child, I loved drawing, designing, and creating things. Some of the pieces I made were even framed by family and friends, which made me very proud.

Back then, I wasn’t thinking about a career. I simply loved the feeling of starting with an idea and turning it into something I could actually see. Looking back now, I realize I’m still doing the same thing—only today, my blank canvas is usually a computer screen.

While I was in college, I became interested in business and entrepreneurship. I started helping new business owners with logos and landing pages, and eventually I was introduced to web design.

I loved it! Web design gave me the opportunity to combine creativity with my interest in business. I wasn’t just making something look nice. I was creating something that could help another person introduce their business to the world.

More than 16 years later, I’m still designing websites—and I’m still excited about what I do.

One of my favorite parts of designing is starting with a blank page and wondering what it’s going to become. Sometimes I know exactly where I want to go with a design. Other times, I experiment until everything starts coming together.

I’ll move something, change a photograph, try another font, decide I don’t like it, change it again, and keep going until I finally look at the screen and think, “Yes! That’s it.”

That moment never gets old.

Even better is seeing a client excited about the finished website and proud to share it with other people. Knowing that I helped take something they were imagining and turn it into something real is one of the reasons I still enjoy this work so much.

Web design has changed tremendously since I started. Technology has changed, business has changed, and now AI is opening another whole world of possibilities. There is always something new to learn, experiment with, or figure out.

I’ve learned a lot about websites over the years, but I’ve also learned a lot about people and business. My parents taught my sister and me to enjoy the work we do, treat people with respect, and work well with others. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my career.

I’ve learned that being good at what you do matters, but so does listening, communicating, keeping your word, and treating people well.

I wanted this journal to be a little different. I don’t want every post to be a business article or a list of website tips. Sometimes I simply want to share what I’m working on, something I’ve learned, a new idea I’m excited about, or an experience that taught me something.

I’ll probably talk about websites, business, creativity, entrepreneurship, technology, and whatever else catches my attention along the way. Most of all, I want this to be a place where people can get to know the person behind the websites.

When I think about that little girl who loved to draw and create, I don’t think she would have imagined spending more than 16 years designing websites. But I think she would understand exactly why I love it.

I’m still creating. I’m still learning. I’m still trying new things.

And I still get excited when I can look at something that started as an idea and say, “I made that.”

I think that’s a pretty good place to start this journal.
